The members of this organization are current and former Franklin Shelter residents. This effort started with only the dedication and singlemindedness of a few men and has grown to a movement that is being recognized throughout many political venues. When we came together we rallied around the cause of saving Franklin from the developers. With no resources and up against one of the most influential organizations in the District, we were able to prevail. Now we have shifted our focus to what comes next. We've saved Franklin's bones; we have to save it's soul. We feel that if the District is going to put money into renovating the shelter, then it might as well do it right, and no one has a better idea of what is needed than we the residents. And we are expanding our efforts. With the addition of new members from other shelters we are moving to organize the homeless population throughout the city. We have also incorporated and are in the process of aquiring status as a non-profit (501c3) organization. We need your support in order to complete the mission. Contact your District Councilmember and tell them that you believe the members of the homeless community should have a say in how the District moves to alleviat the problem of homelessness in the nation's capital. |
